KATHMANDU, April 9: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has demanded the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

The RPP, which started protests with 40 points, demonstrated in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The police intervened after the demonstration started from Bhrikutimandap and proceeded from Bhadrakali to Singha Durbar.  The police have detained two party cadres from the demonstration of the RPP.

The demonstration turned violent, resulting in clashes between RPP protesters and the police. During the confrontation, the police deployed water cannons and batons, while the protesters hurled stones at the police.

Tensions escalated when the police attempted to stop the RPP cadres from advancing into restricted areas. Initially, water cannons were used to disperse the crowd. However, as the protesters persisted, the police resorted to baton-charging.

Under the slogan 'Let's change the system to change the situation,' led by RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden, the demonstration is underway in Kathmandu in order to pressurize the government to meet the 40-point demand. These demands include the abolition of the republic system, reinstating the monarchy, ending secularism, and declaring Nepal as a Hindu nation.

“I want to issue a warning to Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and let it be known, we will remember this day,” stated Chairman Rajendra Lingden. He added, “As of today, the demand for resignation of the home minister has been added to the 40 points previously raised.”

Furthermore, Lingden urged the demonstrators to proceed to Baneshwar and convene a political rally.”
