Road race, badminton to mark cooperatives day

KATHMANDU, March 20: Kathmandu District Cooperatives Association and Kathmandu Division Cooperatives are organizing badminton and road race tournaments, among others, next week to mark the 56th National Cooperatives Day that falls on April 2.



The three-day badminton tournament to be held from March 28 to 30 will be played at the APF Club, Halchowk, said KB Upreti, coordinator of the main organizing committee of the event, during a press conference in the capital on Wednesday. [break]



Only the officials from cooperatives will be eligible to compete in the event. The tournament will feature men´s and women´s singles, men´s and women´s doubles and veterans´ competitions.



The road race in both men´s and women´s categories is open to all. The men´s road race will be of 10 km and women´s of 5 km. The top three players in both men´s and women´s categories will bag Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.



Besides the sports events, the weeklong celebrations will also include blood donation, motorbike rally and fruits distribution at old-age homes.
