Road mishap claims two lives

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Two persons were killed and three others injured when a tanker, which was driving uphill, suddenly drove backward and fell 500 meters down in Dahachowk VDC-6 on Monday.



According to DSP Shekhar Khanal of Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati, the tanker might have suddenly driven backward due to heavy load and muddy road.[break]



The deceased have been identified as tanker driver Radheshyam Maharjan (29) of Thankot and Shyam Sharan Ale Magar (40) of Dhahachowk-6. The injured -- Manoj Maharjan, Shyam Maharjan and Kumar Shrestha - are undergoing treatment at B & B Hospital, Lalitpur.



Police Sub-Inspector Birendra Singh Johari of Metropolitan Police Sector Balambu said the deceased Ale was taking drinking water in the tanker from Thankot for his son´s marriage scheduled for Friday.



“When tanker couldn´t climb up the road, the driver lost control and it started sliding downward and fell 500 meters down the road,” said Johari.
