Rimal clocked 1:08:35 to complete the half marathon organized by Kantipur Publication to mark its 20th anniversary while Bindra Shrestha took 1 hour 28 minutes 37 seconds to win it in women´s category. Rimal and Shrestha bagged Rs 50,000 each along with the winner´s trophy. [break]
Army men Kalyan Baniya and Rajan Khatri finished on the second and the third position. Baniya remained seven seconds behind Rimal while Khatri clocked 1:08:51. He received Rs 25,000.
Army men dominated the men´s section as Letter Singh Khatri, Krishna Basnet and Hom Lal Shrestha finished on the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
Krisneshwori Sintakala completed the half marathon in 1 hour 30 minutes 48 seconds to finish in the second position of the women´s section and bagged Rs 25,000.
Katherine Himes of USA clocked 1:38:00 to clinch the third position. Tashi Jungmu Sherpa and Mani Kala Rai finished on the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Meanwhile, Krishna Raj Chaudhary claimed the first position in men´s 3-km wheelchair race with the timing of 12 minutes 20.2 seconds. Jej Bahadur Ghartimagar remained at the second position while Jay Karki finished in the third position.
Likewise, Jyoti Aryal won the women´s 3-km wheelchair race as she completed it in 17 minutes 38 seconds. Yami Magar and Sarita Koirala finished on the second and the third position.
Altogether, 509 athletes, including 150 women, participated in the marathon, which was flagged off by Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.
