The service has resumed after three weeks of restriction

KATHMANDU, Sep 10: As the local administrations in the Kathmandu Valley eased the prohibitory orders imposed for the last three weeks, ride-sharing companies have resumed their services following proper safety measures, ensuring safety of pillion riders.

On Wednesday, a meeting of the local administrations in the Valley decided to ease the prohibitory orders, allowing private and public vehicles to ply roads on an odd-even basis. The decision means private and public vehicles can ply the roads in the Valley – Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts – after three weeks of restriction.

Under the rule, vehicles with odd number plates are allowed to ply roads on odd days, and those with even number plates on even days.

“As the government has relaxed the prohibitory order, we [Pathao] have decided to resume the service stalled for the last three weeks. The service has been resumed following proper health safety measures,” said Asheem Man Singh Basnyat, Pathao’s regional director.

Talking to Republica, Basnyat further said that the riders wear hazmat suits, and provide sanitizer to the pillion rider before the ride begins. Currently, Pathao has only allowed 1,000 riders to provide the service.

Likewise, Tottle -- another ride-sharing company – has also resumed the service following green signal from the government to private vehicles to ply roads on odd-even basis.

As the ride-sharing companies have resumed the service, thousands of people – dependent on the service for commuting – are expected to be benefitted from today.
