KATHMANDU, June 9: A clash erupted between police and retailers at New Road in Kathmandu on Tuesday morning.

After the retailers opened their shops, police tried to pull down the shutters of the shops which led to a clash between the shop owners and police.

The retailers had opened their shops after chief district officers of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur decided to recommend to the government to allow businesses to open shops for a certain period of time every day.

According to police, the government is yet to lift the lockdown. “Our responsibility is to make the lockdown successful,” a police officer, who was on duty at New Road, told  Republica Online.

Following the incident, police in huge numbers have been deployed in the area.
