Prime Minister Khanal gave this remarks this morning while briefing journalists before the Constituent Assembly (CA) building after the ninth amendment for the extension of CA term by three months on Sunday morning.[break]
A five-point deal was signed among three major political parties – Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Unified CPN (Maoist) - to extend the CA term by three months to accomplish fundamental works related to peace and constitution.
‘I will resign at a time when alternative is prepared for the national government and its formation is materialized’, said Prime Minister Khanal.
He also made it clear that the CA yielded by the struggle of Nepali people will not be dissolved by not framing a new constitution.
Prime Minister Khanal argued that the peace process will go ahead to the logical conclusion within the stipulated timeframe of three months.
Similarly, Chairperson of Unified CPN (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal said they had worked hard expecting that the draft of the new constitution will come within three months. He added the extended timeframe of three months this time is a preparation for the next three months.
The five-point agreement was the commitment to bring about the draft of constitution within three months with hard work and diligence and accomplish the substantial works of the peace process, Chairperson Dahal made public.
‘It is stated that the Prime Minister will resign for the national consensus government; the PM’s resignation will come when an environment for national government is made’, Prachanda commented on the resignation of the PM.
Main opposition party leader Ram Chandra Poudel said the Prime Minister will walk out as per the agreement.
Informing that it was agreed to handover the weapons of the Maoists, not only the key of the containers, leader Poudel added consensus was reached to integrate Maoist combatants in the range of 5000 to 6000.
Likewise, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the Prime Minister will resign after an alternative for national government is presented, adding that dialogues will be held among the political parties regarding peace, constitution and national consensus.
UCPN (Maoist) vice-chairperson Dr. Baburam Bhattarai commented that the five-point deal reached among the three major political parties to extend the CA term by three months is the foundation to consolidate democratic achievements of the country.
Chairperson of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Democratic) Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar expressed confidence that the stalled process of peace building and constitution making will get accomplished within three months with the commitments from three parties for peace, constitution and national consensus.
He further hoped Prime Minister Khanal will resign from the post as per the agreement he signed.
