Residents of Udayapur’s Belaka in panic as Saptakoshi breaks embankment

UDAYAPUR, August 3: The residents of Udayapur’s Belaka are in serious risk of being displaced after the old embankment of the Saptakoshi River burst and flooded the settlement due to continuous rain for the past few days.

UDAYAPUR, August 3: The residents of Udayapur’s Belaka are in serious risk of being displaced after the old embankment of the Saptakoshi River burst and flooded the settlement due to continuous rain for the past few days.


A large number of households are at risk after the flood destroyed the Laurikhonch embankment at Dumribote, west of Koshi, which was built in 2044 BS and entered the slums.

Mayor of Belaka Municipality, Ashok Karki said that the focus is now on preventing human and property loss. Mayor Karki said, "The main problem now is how to prevent loss of human life and property."


The chief district officer, police and heads of armed and security agencies have also reached the flood-affected areas and are conducting on-site monitoring and disaster management. Jira Rai, deputy mayor of the city, said that after the on-site monitoring, the disaster management committee will hold a meeting and make future plans.
