KATHMANDU, March 6: Yadu Memorial Academy, Rukum honored Republica's Special Correspondent Bhadra Sharma with the Yadu Memorial Award-2017 in the weekend for his 'excellent' reporting in favor of peace, democracy and good governance.

CPN-UML leader Somnath Pyasi handed over Rs 15,000 and a letter of appreciation to Sharma amid a function organized in Radijyula of Rukum on Saturday to commemorate the 18th Yadu Memorial Day. On March 5, 1999 Yadu Gautam, a UML MP candidate from constituency No 2 of the district, was killed by the Maoists during election campaign.

During Saturday's function, leader Pyasi condemned the act of killing opponents just for having difference of opinion. "Maoist killed Yaduji as they viewed him as their immediate challenge," said Pyasi.

UML central committee members Sher Bahadur KC and Khemman Khadka, UML Rukum district chairperson Bimal Kumar Pun and former member of parliamentarian Tirtha Gautam among others highlighted Yadu's contribution.

Before organizing a mass meeting in Radijyula of the district, leader Pyasi had laid the foundation of Yadu Memorial Academy in Chaurjahari, which is the home village of the murdered UML leader.
