The government has formed a three-member committee to hold talks with senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging hunger strike, demanding reforms in the medical sector of the country.

The government has urged people in Kathmandu Valley to be extra-cautious as the Valley is witnessing the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.

Pradip Kumar Gyawali, the government spokesperson and the Minister for the Foreign Affairs, while unveiling the decision made by cabinet meeting held on Monday, urged the people living in the Kathmandu Valley to adopt extra precaution measures as the Valley is in very high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The Diversity Visa (DV) lottery registration for 2022 has opened on Wednesday.

Nepal recorded the highest single day jump of 3,439 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours taking the country’s COVID-19 tally to 94,253.

The country also witnessed 15 new cases of death linked to COVID-19 on Wednesday. A total of  578 people have died of COVID-19 in Nepal as of Wednesday afternoon.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday afternoon, the main opposition party slammed the government for showing apathy toward the fast-unto-death staged by Dr KC for the past 24 days. “It’s been 24 days since Dr KC has been on the hunger strike and his health condition has further worsened. But the government has not even formed a team to hold talks with him,” the NC said in the statement.

Five people including the Ward Chair of Junichande Municipality were killed in a Jeep accident in Jajarkot on Wednesday evening.

According to police, two others went missing, while one person was left severely injured as the ill-fated Jeep (Bhe 1 Jha 937) met with an accident at Ayuwal River of Juni Chande Municipality.

The cabinet meeting has decided to allow conducting exams of all educational institutions, boards and universities.  

Speaking at a regular press meet on Wednesday, Pradeep Gyawali, the Government Spokesperson, said that the cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to give approval in principle to conduct exams of all levels and natures of all commissions, boards, schools and universities, among others.
