KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Marking her 7th solo painting exhibition, multitalented artist Sandhya Regmi presented her compilation of 38 paintings, at Nepal Art Council, Baber Mahal on Saturday. The program was inaugurated by Khil Raj Regmi, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.
The paintings at the exhibition are based on two themes: ‘Faces of Buddha’ and ‘Reincarnation of Buddha’. [break]
There are a total of 32 paintings under the theme ‘Faces of Buddha’, where every painting portrays the image of Gautam Buddha. Acknowledging the fact that no artist has ever meticulously portrayed the actual Gautam Buddha, artist Regmi has used her own conceptualization along with the varied depiction of Buddha on the other parts of the world, to create diversity in her paintings.
“As I visited different parts of the world, I saw that the portrait of Buddha varied drastically from one place to other. Therefore, I’ve used my artistic skills to delineate such diversity of the same figure,” said Sandhya Regmi.
Meanwhile, the theme ‘Reincarnation of Buddha’ reflects the fact that every individual is capable of attaining enlightenment, and therefore, every human is a hidden Buddha. Incorporating this theme in six of her paintings, Regmi has portrayed individual faces of four monks along with group paintings of monks.
The exhibited artworks are the outcomes of her work between 2002-2013, and they perfectly justify Regmi’s passion and spirituality in art.
The art exhibition is open for the public till August 24.
