KATHMANDU, April 14: In a clear indication that the new Constituent Assembly (CA) election would not be held in coming June-July, Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi has said that polls would be conducted by mid-December later this year.

In a greeting issued on the eve of New Year 2070 BS, Regmi sought support from all sections of the society for holding elections in the winter. [break]

“I urge all Nepali brothers and sisters staying in and outside the country to help the government in making the election to be held by mid-December a success,” Regmi said in his message issued late night on Saturday.

Regmi, meanwhile, urged various political parties who have announced to boycott the election to join the election process. “I formally urge the political parties who have differing views with regard to election to join the election process,” said the statement.

Also, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, in his greeting message, confirmed that the polls would not be held in June-July. He, however, said that polls should be held by mid-November.

“We are going to conduct polls by mid-November,” read Khanal´s statement issued on Saturday. He urged one and all to help make the coming election a success.

Leaders from the major political parties while signing the 11-point agreement had said election will be held by mid-December if it becomes practically impossible to conduct polls in June-July due to inevitable circumstances.
