KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi has resigned from the post, according to sources familiar with the development. Regmi's term as the chief secretary was due to expire on October 16.
The resignation of the chief secretary a couple of weeks before his retirement is seen as an attempt by the government to appoint Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi as the chief secretary.

A Cabinet meeting currently underway at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar is likely to appoint a new chief secretary. The meeting originally scheduled for 9 am started at 10 am.
Sources said the Cabinet meeting is likely to appoint Regmi as an ambassador.
