Regmi govt unconstitutional: Ex-lawmakers

KATHMANDU, March 18: Former lawmakers of the then Constituent Assembly concluded on Monday that the Khila Raj Regmi-led election government is unconstitutional and un-political.



At an interaction program held by the CPN-Maoist led alliance at New Baneshwar, they also decided to launch strong protests to exert pressure for the formation of a consensus government of the political parties. [break]



They also formed a nine-member dialogue and liaison committee to give continuity to dialogue among the former lawmakers, express solidarity with protest programs against the government and also launch protest programs themselves.



The interaction was called to work out future strategy against the government and look for suggestions and a way out.



"The interaction among former lawmakers concluded that it is not only the current government that is unconstitutional but also the process of formation of the Khil Raj Regmi-led government. The three parties [UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML] and the Madhesi parties [United Democratic Madhesi Front] blundered in seeking a constitution amendment in the name of removing difficulties. We decided to launch strong protests for the dissolution of the current government and formation of a consensus government of the political parties," said former lawmaker Pari Thapa, who is also leader of the CPN (Unified).



According to former lawmaker Santosh Budha Magar, who is a leader of the CPN-Maoist, the interaction among former lawmakers concluded that the decision of the three parties and the Madhesi front on formation of the Regmi-led election government is un-political and unconstitutional, and so it must be dissolved. Secondly, the former lawmakers expressed solidarity with the protests of various political parties and professional organizations such as Nepal Bar Association. Thirdly, the former lawmakers are to launched protests demanding dissolution of the current government and formation of a consensus government of political parties.



"We could not success in bringing about the participation of all former lawmakers. We will give continuity to such programs," added Budha Magar, informing that they have formed the nine-member dialogue and liaison committee. Around 100 former lawmakers from all parties participated in the interaction.



Dev Gurung, Pari Thapa, Tilak Thapa, Kumar Rai, Dhirendra Shrestha, Abhishek Pratap Sah, Ramanand Mandal and Kalpana Rana are members of the committee.



Addressing the program, former speaker Subash Nembang claimed that the political parties [UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF)] distorted and misinterpreted the constitution. Similarly, Gurung urged unity to thwart the unconstitutional move of the major parties.

In the interaction, Ekraj Bhandari, Ang Dawa Sherpa, Usha Kala Rai, Tilak Thapa, Mangal Siddhi Manandhar and Rukmini Chaudhari also put forward their views.
