Regmi asks CoAS to keep army on standby

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: While the government plans to implement Integrated Election Security Plan, Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khila Raj Regmi on Monday directed Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana to keep the army on standby.



In a regular meeting held at Office of the Council of the Minister, Singhadurbar, Regmi told CoAS Rana that the government was all prepared to hold election on November 19, and assured that it will fulfill all the necessities forwarded by the army as per the security plan, Nepal Army sources said.[break]



Bimal Gautam, Regimi´s Press Advisor, said that the discussion was focused on the security arrangement for the election.

According to him, CoAS Rana, briefed Chairman Regmi on the prevailing security situation and further steps to be taken for a free, fair and fearless election.

Meanwhile, CoAS Rana also drew the attention of the government to speedily address the election-related logistics and arms and transportation supports.



NA spokesperson Brigadier General Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, however, said, “The meeting did not take any specific decision (on army mobilization), but the meeting centered on the effective use of Integrated Election Security Plan.”
