Reforms in tax administration needed: Revenue secy

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Newly appointed Revenue Secretary Rajan Khanal on Wednesday said tax administration should undergo reforms to meet the revenue target.



Khanal also said sluggish progress in spending in this fiscal year due to the earthquake is likely to affect revenue collection. During his visit to the Inland Revenue Department on Wednesday, Khanal said taxpayers have the right to know what amount of tax and on what headings is needed to be paid.

He also said taxes should not be levied on persons who do not make any economic gain. Khanal also said that he would keep close vigil on revenue collection.


Khanal replaced Nawaraj Bhandari who had secretly left for USA two weeks ago after the government decided to initiate action against civil servants holding PR of foreign countries.


Khanal assumed office at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Monday.
