KATHMANDU, June 2: CPN-UML lawmaker Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has said that the country’s revenue cannot be increased by reducing imports. He made the remarks at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday.

Participating in the discussion on the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for 2022/23, Gyawali said that the government cannot increase revenue by reducing imports in the coming fiscal year.

Gyawali also said that a large portion of the government’s annual revenue was dependent on imports. He mentioned that the arrangement of the import of sanitary pads and electric vehicles in the budget is made for the benefit of the big business houses.

According to him, the budget for the coming fiscal year has not made any programs to stop the billions of rupees that go abroad every year. He said that the budget will not be able to solve even the basic problems of the economy.
