Rukmanee Maharjan, legal advisor of Y-eelum and a young advocate, facilitated the workshop.
Through interactive sessions with the participants, the workshop highlighted the less-discussed subject matter concerning the youth -- law.
According to Y-eelum, on the ground of being human, women are supposed to be the subject of law but the prevailing practice treats or prefers to treat women as objects.
The phrase ‘reasonable woman’ was never articulated in the law.
“The definition of a ‘reasonable man’ in the law does not incorporate women as an independent identity,” says Maharjan, adding, “According to woman psychology and nature, there should be different standards or special provision incorporated in law.”
The participants prepared presentations, made peer review, and discussed about the prevalent law in Nepal while actively taking part in the program.
“I like participating in group discussions, especially youth-oriented interactive workshops. That is why, even though it is raining heavily, I came here,” said Prabin Shrestha, a student and an active participant of the workshop.
