“Reactionary forces have been inciting them (Baidya-led party). But nothing can disrupt the polls,” Dahal told media persons in Pokhara on Thursday.[break]
Baidya-led faction of the UCPN (Maoist) last year split the mother party to form CPN-Maoist. The Baidya-led party and Upendra Yadav´s Madhesi People´s Rights Forum, among other regional groups, have been protesting the formation of an election government under the chief justice and have threatened to disrupt the polls.
Dahal said that if the Baidya-led Maoist party didn´t participate in the election, the party would be “punished” by the people. “The coming election is not like the one held during former King Gyanendra Shah´s regime. This time around, people will punish all those who try to obstruct the polls,” said Dahal.
He also said that leaders from the major political parties have invited the Baidya-led party to join the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) that takes crucial political decisions and offers suggestions to the present government. “The doors are open for them to join the HLPC,” he said, adding that he was optimistic about the dissident parties joining the committee.
“Disrupting the polls would be an attack on the sovereignty of the people. No one should go against the people´s aspirations for change,” he said.
