BARA, Sept 16: The District Prison, Rautahat, has been crowded with inmates double its capacity.
Established in 1990 BS at Gaur Municipality-8, the prison has the capacity to accommodate only 160 to 200 inmates, but it has now 381 prisoners, said Jailer Mani Bhusan Shah.

The inmates have been spending their time in fear, as the prison building is in a dilapidated condition. They are facing inconvenience to run daily activities due to nearly two-fold inmates.
Shah shared that 76 inmates have been kept on the rooftop of the jail building after setting up an enclosure by using corrugated sheets. The inmates have to stay in a long line to use the toilet due to overcrowding.
A guard Manoj Kumar Baitha shared that the prisoners were facing sheer difficulties to sleep during night.
The concerned government bodies were informed about the plight, but no initiatives have been taken so far, according to Baitha.
