Raut supporters clash with police

KAPILVASTU, Feb 19: Tensions ran high in the southern part of Rupandehi district on Sunday when locals attacked a police post at Badbaliya.  

According to District Police Office, Rupandehi around 200 people came to the police post and started pelting stones at the police. The DPO claimed that the police fired a few rounds in the air. A SLR rifle that went missing during the clash was later recovered but a teargas gun and five rounds of SLR ammunition are yet to be recovered.

The DPO informed that four policemen and a local sustained injuries during the clash. The crowd snatched some weapons and took them away.
 
Chief District Officer Binod Prakash Singh informed that three people were taken under control on the charge of pelting stones at the police office and investigations were underway.
 
Police on Saturday also clashed with supporters of CK Raut, who is in judicial custody for engaging in separatist activities. On Saturday, police had arrested 24  of the protesters demanding Raut's release. In a clash, five police  along with some locals were injured. Police claimed that the clash was with those supporting  Raut.

They also said that the so-called locals were Raut supporters. Meanwhile, the locals have claimed that they and their school-going children have been victims of police brutality.

 Injured police have been admitted to Bhairahawa Bhim Hospital and the medical college at Bhairahawa. 

According to police, they fired three rounds in the air to take control of the situation. Cadres of Raut had set a truck on fire.
