Acting on a tip off, the Indian police in Siliguri arrested ULFA´s former leader Prabin Das, 47, aka Rajib Raya. Siligudi police has claimed that it was Das who planned Rathi´s abduction and murder.[break]
According to Indian media, Das was arrested from Jalpaigudi Railway Station while heading for Delhi from Guwahati. However, Indian police is yet to unearth the motive behind the murder.
Siligudi police had intensified a hunt for Das based on the statements of three Indian nationals -- Surendra Mishra, his wife Monica and his aide Abhijit Basu -- arrested in connection with Rathi´s murder. Das, who was an influential leader of ULFA, had surrendered to the government five years ago.
Chandra Chudal of Siva Sena Nepal and Industrialist Rathi, who were on business trip to India were missing from Siligudi since January 11.
Their dead bodies were found on the bank of Teesta River in West Bengal of India on February 2.
