Rasuwa Police launches crackdown on gold smuggling

RASUWA Jan 25: Police have stepped up security check at northern Rasuwagadhi border point following rampant incidents of the smuggling of gold into Nepal. 

On Monday, a man named Chakra Bahadur Dhamala of Simpalakapre-6 in Sindhupalchok was held along with 117.32 grams gold bar from Rasuwagadhi border point. Dhamala was smuggling the gold into Nepal, police said. 

Later he was handed over to the Rasuwa Customs Office, Timure for investigation. 

Chief of the District Police Office, Rasuwa Phanindra Prasain said the security check follows rampant incidents of gold smuggling. 

He also said that people have been asked to cooperate in the police crackdown on gold smuggling by tipping off police about such incidents. He added that identity of those who provide information on such incidents would be kept confidential. RSS
