Police to file three counts of crimes against 32 people involved in 33 kg gold smuggling, murder

BIRATNAGAR, May 2: Case against 62 people involved in smuggling of 33 kg gold and murder of Sanam Shakya will be filed at District Court, Morang. The accused will be charged on three counts of crime; kidnapping, attempt to murder and organized crime, according to Arun Kumar BC, Superintendent and chief of District Police Office, Morang.  BC added case would also be filed against at-large accused mastermind Chuda Mani Upreti aka Gore along with 34 others.

According to the Office of Government Attorney, Upreti will be charged with three counts of crime while 34 others would face different cases.

The District Police Office said that cases would be filed against six former police officials, three businesspersons, six accused of murder of Sanam Shakya and 13 airport officials.

The police will file case against the following:

Organized Crime: Former DIG Govinda Niraula, SP Bikas Raj Khanal, DSP Prajit KC and Sanjit Raut, sub-inspector Bal Krishna Sanjel, Constable Bishnu Bahadur Khadka

Airport officials: Lal Bahadur Magar, Doram Khatri, Raju Maharjan,  Kapil Raj Puri, Gopal Shrestha, Punya Lama, Rajan Thapa, Hemanta Gauchan, Birendra Man Shrestha, Amar Dangol, Tularam Tharu, Sambir Tolange, Bal Krishna Shrestha,

Businessperson: Rajendra Man Shakya, Mahabir Golyan, and RPP leader Bhujung Gurung

Organized Crime and Attempt to Murder: Mohan Ghimire (Madhav), Ekraj Malla, Narendra Karki, Mohan Karki, Lakpa Sherpa for the killing of Sanam Shakya

Senior Superintendent of Police Dibesh Lohani has been summoned to Biratnagar following instruction of the probe committee formed by the Home Minister. Lohani had presented himself at the District Police Office yesterday.
