KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Nepal and China have agreed to share real-time weather information following the sudden Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood and discussions on weather conditions in the affected areas.
Officials from Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) and the China Meteorological Administration held a virtual meeting on Wednesday, with representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal also attending. The two sides agreed to cooperate on weather monitoring, forecasting and the exchange of meteorological information.

According to the DHM, Chinese officials said there had been no significant rainfall in the affected Tibetan areas and that there was insufficient evidence to attribute the flooding to rainfall.
Nepal’s weather authorities said the flood could have been caused by a glacial lake outburst, landslide or another event that temporarily blocked the river, but the cause has not yet been officially confirmed and requires further joint study.
China has also agreed to immediately inform Nepal if any weather-related risks or impacts are detected on the Chinese side that could affect Nepal.
