KATHMANDU, Aug 30: A total of 734 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa, while 2,498 people remain missing.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority released the latest figures as of 9 a.m. Sunday. Of the 626 bodies identified by location, 13 were recovered in Rasuwa, 51 in Nuwakot, 45 in Dhading, 48 in Gorkha, 158 in Nawalparasi East, 47 in Nawalparasi West, 31 in Tanahun and 233 in Chitwan.

According to the authority, 15,224 personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed for rescue operations in the flood-hit areas. A total of 4,451 people have been rescued so far, including 191 rescued through hydropower tunnels and 517 by air. Nepal Army and private helicopters have conducted 99 flights using 16 helicopters for the rescue operation. A total of 129 foreign nationals have also been rescued.
Those still missing include 27 Nepal Police personnel, 45 Nepal Army personnel, 13 Armed Police Force personnel, 15 customs office employees, four immigration office employees, 562 people from Rasuwa, 115 from Nuwakot, 933 employees and workers associated with hydropower projects, 65 from Makwanpur and three from Langtang National Park. In addition, 517 foreign nationals and 127 Nepali citizens residing abroad who had been visiting Nepal remain unaccounted for.
Relief and recovery efforts are also underway in the affected areas. Food and non-food supplies have so far been transported through 37 trucks and seven helicopter flights, while communication equipment has also been distributed. Of the 198 telephone towers damaged by the flood, 145 have resumed operation following repairs.
