Rare Chinese Rubythroat spotted in Kanchanpur for the first time

KANCHANPUR, Dec 6: Chinese Rubythroat, a rare bird found in the Himalayan range, has been spotted in Kanchanpur for the first time. The bird was sighted at Nakaiya wetland of Belauri Municipality-7.


A team comprising Hiru Lal Dagaura, an ornithologist at Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN), Suban Caudhary of Shuklaphanta Nature Guide Association and Mahananda Joshi recorded the sighting of the rare bird.

This species of bird travels to the Terai to avoid increasing cold in the mountainous areas following snowfall. 


“This species of bird is spotted for the first time in Kanchanpur,” Ornithologist Chaudhary said, “The bird is rare in this area.” 


There is no record of sighting of this species of bird so far in Kanchanpur. The Chinese Rubythroat is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia and Thailand. It migrates to the Terai during the winter season and returns to the mountains during the summer.
