Victim of multiple rape assaults, Gyani along with her children have been living in a public toilet at Simlatari market of Murtung VDC for several years. While Gyani is still vulnerable, no one has come to her rescue, shared Sarswati Thapa, a local. “Had we not helped her get medical attention, she would have gone mad by now,” said Thapa. [break]
According to locals, Gyani has been living with support from locals and the little money she earns by doing odd jobs. “She doesn´t have a place to stay. Sometimes we see her in the marketplace and most of the time in the open fields,” said Thapa.
Taking to Republica, Gyani suspected that the men who raped her were from Pyuthan and Amarpur and Dhurkot VDCs of Gulmi “They raped me and left me with their children. They have never come to see me even once,” said Gyani.
Her eldest son Birkhey, who is a 12th grader, works at Simlatari market while the other two beg in the same market area. “It is a painful feeling to not know who one´s father is. I and my mother work hard to feed my two younger brothers,” said Birkhey.
Meanwhile, Surya Bahadur GC, another elderly local said, “We have even helped her acquire citizenship. But this hasn´t helped alleviate her plight.”
