Rana sisters storm into quarters

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Twin sisters Mayanka and Mahika Rana of Rupy´s International School stormed into the quarterfinals of U-14 girls´ singles event in the Seventh LA/JTI Inter-school Junior Open Tennis Championship on Monday.



Mayanka crushed Swastika Bhujel of Radiant Readers 8-0 on Monday at the Satdobato Tennis Court, Lalitpur while Mahika thrashed Raisa Maharjan of the host Little Angels´ (LA) 8-1 to reach the last eight. Alsa Regmi of Kasthamandap, Karuna Gauchan of Rato Bangala, Ira Raut of Pennwood Academy, Utsavi Joshi of Rato Bangala, Khushi Pandey of The British School and Bibhuti Karki of St Xavier´s also advanced into the quarterfinals of the event winning their respective matches.[break]



In the U-14 boys´ singles, Saksham Karki of Rato Bangala, Samrakshak Bhushan Bajracharya of Shuvatara, Pradeep Khanal of Pokhara, Pranav Khanal of St Xavier´s and Anjan Thing of Nepal Police School won their respective matches on Monday to secure berths in the last eight. Kastup Raj Pandey of Ullens and Bipin Thapa of LA received walkovers from their opponents to reach the quarterfinals.



Meanwhile, Alsa Regmi of Kasthamandap; Binita Rana of Mahendra Adarsha Vidya Mandir; Laxmi BK, Swastika Gurung and Akriti Shah of Radiant; and Shiwalika Rayamajhi, Utsavi Joshi and Raisa Vaidya of Rato Bangala entered the quarterfinals of U-12 girls´ singles winning their respective matches at the court of host LA at Hattiban, Lalitpur on Monday. In the U-12 boys´ singles, Swaraj KC (LA), Deep Rana (LA), Pradeep Khadka (Pokhara), Sudan Lamichhane (LA), Renjan Lama (Police School), Utsav Thapa (Police School), Piyush Singh (LA) and Samrakshak Bhushan Bajracharya (Shuvatara) made it to the quarterfinals.



Likewise, Adit Subedi of St Xavier´s, Rahul Singh of Kasthamandap, Deep Rana of LA, Sulav Dhital of Nepal Police School, Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya, Ashish Karki of Nepal Police School, Aryan Giri of Ullens and Utsav Karki of Nepal Police School reached the last eight of U-10 boys´ singles.



Meanwhile, Milan Roka of LA defeated Abhishek Bista of St Xavier´s 8-1 and Avash Malla of Rato Bangala thrashed Suman Karki of National Tennis Center (NTC) by the same scoreline to reach the semifinals of U-18 boys´ singles. Ganesh Karki of NTC beat Govinda Pakhrin 8-2 while Abhishek Banstola of Pokhara thrashed David Tako of LA 8-0 to complete the semifinal line-up.
