KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Rainfall is forecast in various districts from Koshi to Gandaki provinces starting Wednesday.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has indicated the possibility of light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday in some areas of Koshi Province, as well as in a few hilly regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including Madhesh Province.
Rainfall likely in Koshi and Karnali provinces
The bulletin of the MFD mentions the possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two locations of Koshi Province.
Dr Binod Pokharel, associate professor at the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at Tribhuvan University, has indicated the possibility of rainfall in the afternoon from Wednesday to Saturday in areas from Gandaki to Koshi provinces. He said that Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces are unlikely to experience significant rainfall during this period.
According to the MFD, the country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds. While the monsoon winds remain active, the addition of moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal on September 27 and September 28 caused heavy rainfall, resulting in a significant loss of life and property. The heavy rain-producing clouds were concentrated in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Currently, this system is weakening and shifting eastward.
Currently, the sun is shining in the western regions, including the Kathmandu Valley, though partial cloud cover is expected by Monday afternoon. From Tuesday, light rain is anticipated in the eastern districts, including those in Koshi Province. The MFD forecasts light to moderate rainfall in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces on Tuesday.
