Contrary to general perception of dropping mercury as an aftereffect of the rainfall, minimum temperature in the valley increased by three degree Celsius on Thursday morning. Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) recorded 6.6 degree minimum temperature Thursday morning as against 2.9 degree on Wednesday.
“It happens sometimes immediately after the rainfall,” senior meteorologist Rajendra Shreshtha told myrepublica.com. “The rainfall, however, will result in a rise in temperature in the upcoming days, if not immediately.”
Even as minimum temperature dropped in the morning, MFD recorded a fall in maximum temperature at 15.7 degree on Thursday. On Wednesday, it was 17.3.degree. According to Shreshta, the first rainfall since October caused heavy snowfalls in several parts of the country, leaving many people affected.
MFD has recorded a heavy snowfall in Jumla, one of the three hilly districts in which it has weather recording stations. “There have been snowfalls in various places,” Shreshtha said. “But our record shows snowfall only in Jumla. We have failed to contact other stations.”
