Relatives of Ram Maya Shahi, 49, took the help of community radio in Damauli after doctors told them that Shahi, who bled profusely while undergoing a surgery, needed blood.
The family members had to resort to radio as there is no blood bank in the district. The two pints of blood available at Damauli hospital was not enough for Shahi.
After the radio informed that Shahi needed B-positive blood, five donors reached the hospital.
Shahi´s condition was critical until Wednesday morning. But after receiving blood from two of the donors, her condition was improving by Wednesday evening, according to Rajendra Ranabhat, the hospital´s lab technician.
This was the fist time a community radio was used in the district to find blood donors.
