Out of all the participants who auditioned for the ‘QC Awards 2013: The Poetry Slam,’ 21 of them have made it to the final.[break]
Organized by Quixote’s Cove and the Word Warriors in collaboration with the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the program expects to see a new generation of performers to celebrate great poetry.
Before the finalists were announced, a total of 74 students participated in the one-day workshop with Word Warriors held at Ullens School on February 18.
Out of those participants, 60 auditioned at three different venues – at Thames International College, Lincoln School, and Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC) on February 23.
The judgment was based on their writing skills and performance by a panel of five judges at each venue.
The final will have two rounds of slam where 21 finalists will be performing in the first round. The top scoring 10 will then make it to the second round where they’ll perform their second round of poems. The top scoring five from the second round will then be named winners of the QC Awards 2013: The Poetry Slam.
“We want new generations of performers to take the Nepali slam poetry movement forward and want to encourage youngsters to express both in Nepali and English through their poetry. Slam poetry movement has already started. So, to take this momentum forward and bring out the voice of youth, we came out with this event,” says Ujjwala Maharjan, Program Manager of Quixote’s Cove.
The finale is open to all and will take place on March 2 at Lincoln School, Rabi Bhawan, at 11 am.
Tickets are priced at Rs 50 each.
