Puntara sweeps away 2 villages

DADELDHURA, Sept 21: Two villages have been swept away by Puntara river in the inner tarai area of Jogbuda-2.



The villages of Thandajala and Patareni have been converted into deserts as the river displaced 35 families, sweeping away eight houses, and all the land of the 35 families. “More than 100 bigaha of land has been swept away and the river is still eroding land,” said Dal Bahadur Thapa, a local.[break]



The displaced families are taking shelter in the nearby jungle by setting up camps. “More than 100 families of Sargouda, Simalkhet, Basgojhra and other villages in Jogbuda-2 have been affected by floods due to Rangoon and Pantura rivers,” the coordinator of the Flood Victims Struggle Committee Nara Bahadur Bam, said.



The District Administration Office also said lands of three dozen families in the inner tarai area have been swept away. “We will make arrangements for relief once we complete settling the displaced families at a secure place,” Chief District Officer (CDO) Prem Lal Lamichhane said.



Likewise, the ever-swelling Mahakali river is also eroding land in Kunda of Jogbuda-2 and Tatapani, Bond, Karali, Khaligada, Bhourkunda, and other villages of Jogbuda-3. Similarly Sadani river has affected around two dozen families of Ghumtigada, Sadani and Lamigada villages of Jogbuda-4. Meanwhile, all the land of 15 families of Thandajal village has been swept away by the Rangoon River.
