According to a highly-placed source at the NSC, the triathlon association will be headed by Pun while Nilendra Shrestha, who is also the president of Nepal Amateur Athletics Association, will be its general secretary.[break]
Triathlon is a discipline of sports that includes swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession over various distances. "The association will include players and senior officials of swimming, cycling and athletics associations," the source said.
The NSC source has claimed that the NTA will be registered as a new association with the NSC. "There isn´t any triathlon association registered with the NSC," NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama told Republica, but refused to make any further comments.
Though Lama denied the existence of any triathlon association at the NSC, NTA headed by Bishwa Shankar Palikhe is already in existence and is registered with the internationally-recognized Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC). Umesh Rimal is its general secretary and Ganesh Bahadur Bhattarai and Upendra Keshari Neupane are the vice-presidents.
Jeevan Ram Shrestha, the general secretary of NOC, also confirmed the registration of NTA with the committee. "NTA is registered with NOC, and it is not necessary that an association affiliated to NOC be registered with the NSC.
However, it must be affiliated to a government agency," Shrestha said, adding that he was unaware about the government agency the NTA was registered with.
The vice-president of existing NTA Upendra Keshari Neupane said that the association was registered with the Kaski District Administration Office. "We are registered with the Kaski District Administration Office and there is no point in forming a new association when another is in existence," Neupane said, adding, "This is against the rule of law and constitution."
NSC Member Secretary Lama was appointed by the UCPN (Maoist).
