Pun sets new national records

KATHMANDU, May 9: Weightlifter Tara Devi Pun set three new national records in women´s 75kg weight category on Thursday while representing Nepal in the Egate King´s Cup International Weightlifting Championship being held in Srisaket, Thailand.



Nepal Police Club´s Pun lifted 66 kg in snatch and 90 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 156 kg on Thursday. All the three weights, which she lifted, are new national records. [break]



The previous national records were also to her name. She had lifted 60 kg in snatch and 80 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 140 kg during the Third Women´s Open Weightlifting Championship held in Luvu, Lalitpur to set the record then.



Despite setting the new national records, Pun could not win any medal in the championship.

Meanwhile, 10th South Asian Games gold medalist Kamal Bahadur Adhikari missed out on bronze medal by a whisker as he finished fourth in the men´s 77 kg weight category in the championship. Nepal Army´s weightlifter Adhikari lifted 115kg in snatch and 155 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 270 kg.



In the women´s 58 kg weight category, Nepal Police Club´s Uttam Khatri lifted 61 kg in snatch and 73 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 134 kg.
