Sunil Jaiswal, a rice mill owner in Chandranigapur, said that he has not been able to get deeds for lands worth millions of rupees transferred to his name even after paying money because the Land Revenue Office has remained closed for more than a month."I have already paid more than half of the total amount to buy the plot of land, but I have not been able to acquire the land as the government office has been shut," Jaiswal expressed his helplessness.
Sadanand Jha, another local, said that he was unable to withdraw money from his accounts at different banks all of which have remained closed since the protests broke out.
The protest that has been launched by the Madheshi Morcha expressing dissatisfaction over the issues of the demarcation of the provinces and what they see as unfair provisions in the new constitution.
At most of the government offices, senior officials are absent while only office assistants are seen milling about at the premises. The high level officers and heads of government offices are said to be in Kathmandu to sign their attendance at their respective ministries. Likewise, the government staffers who had been transferred from other places to the two districts have left for their home towns.
Other local staffers, too, have stopped going to the office citing security threat.
The Assistant Chief District Officer at Rautahat, Ram Raja Prasad Subedi said that the authority tried to open some of the offices to resume the services with the help of security personnel. Mahottari CDO Dipak Kafle also said that the attempts to resume the offices were fruitless because of security threat.
