KATHMANDU, March 18: Former Speaker and Maoist Center leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who was arrested in the gold smuggling case, has been presented to the Kathmandu District Court.
The public prosecutor is preparing to request permission to detain him for 7 days for investigation in a gold smuggling case. Mahara was arrested from Kapilvastu this morning after the high-level commission headed by former judge Dilliraj Acharya formed to probe gold smuggling recommended him to be prosecuted in the case.

Soon after his arrest, he was brought to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police. Mahara’s close relationship was seen with Chinese citizen Dawajin Wang, who was involved in gold smuggling through vape.
CIB chief AIG Shyam Gyawali said that a detailed investigation will be conducted on him during the extended period.
