Public holiday declared in Gandaki State on Maghe Sakranti

POKHARA, Jan 10: Gandaki Provincial Government has announced a public holiday on Maghe  (Makar) Sakranti, the first day of Nepali month of Magh that falls on January 15 this year. 

The meeting of the Council of Ministers convened on January 9 here decided to this effect, according to Provincial Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Spokesperson of government, Ram Sharan Basnet. 

In a press meet here on Friday, Minister Basnet shared that the meeting also decided on several matters- one among them was approval in principle for the formulation of the bill relating to the operation of homestay in the Province. 

The decision was made to approve the bill relating to the Gandaki Provincial Academy to present it to the Provincial Assembly through the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As per the astrological chart, the Makar Sankranti has a special significance as the sun enters into the northern hemisphere from this day onwards. On this day, the sun moves from the tropic of Sagittarius to tropic of Capricorn. It is believed that the days get longer from today itself.

According to 'Bhabisya Puran' and 'Dharma Sindhu', religious texts, the devotees will get special blessings and will have robust the body if they observe the festival as per the rituals.
