BIRATNAGAR, May 12: Regular work at Purwanchal University (PU) has been halted after agitating students padlocked the university´s central office in Biratnagar. A convocation ceremony of the university scheduled to be held shortly has also become uncertain after agitating students padlock the offices of the vice-chancellor and rector. [break]

Students padlocked the university offices alleging that the university authorities did not implement an agreement reached earlier to ensure student representation in the university assembly slated to be held in Kathmandu Thursday. The students had earlier agreed to open the padlock after a committed headed by a dean agreed on March 19 to ensure student representation in the assembly.

The students padlocked the office alleging that the authorities did not show any concern about implementing the agreement even though there are just two days left before the convocation ceremony, according to Dharma Bhattarai, president of the student council.
