KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The government of Province 5 has restricted the transaction and splitting of land in the areas where it has proposed to set up the provincial headquarters.

According to a notice issued by the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, any transaction and splitting of land in certain areas of the proposed headquarters has been barred until further notice.

The provincial government’s restriction on land transactions and splitting of land follows Friday's decision to propose Lumbini as the name of the province and Dang as its permanent capital. The proposal is subject to  voting in the provincial assembly’s session that will kick off on Monday.

If the provincial government’s proposal garners two-third votes, Province 5 will get Lumbini as its name with its permanent headquarters at Bhaluwang in Dang. However, the areas where the proposed headquarters will remain also include a small part of Arghakhanchi district. Amid concerns about the hike of land price at the local level, the provincial government decided to halt the land transactions in the areas where the permanent headquarters will remain.

According to the notice, land transaction and splitting will be banned in the entire Rapti Rural Municipality and Wards 1, 2 and 3 of Gadhawa Rural Municipality of Dang district and Wards 8 and 9 of Shitganga Municipality of Arghakhanchi district.
