The teachers were released after a three-hour detention at Nepal Police Club, Exhibition Road.
NTU, which is on a stir for a month, completed its third round of movement on Monday. It is demanding that the 11-point agreement reached two years ago with the then government and the report of Janardan Nepal Commission submitted to the government in March 2009 be implemented. The former Maoist government had formed the commission to offer suggestions for teachers´ benefits.
NTU demands that high priority should be given to making temporary teachers permanent there should be time-bound promotions for permanent teachers. The government has not carried out new recruitment of permanent teachers for over a decade. According to NTU, there are nearly 20,000 temporary teachers throughout the nation.
"We are facing discrimination regarding promotion in comparison to civil servants," says NTU President Krishna Dhakal.
According to Dhakal, NTU will work out new protests through its meeting due on Tuesday.
