KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Public prosecutors on Thursday filed a murder case against Armed Police Force DIG Ranjan Koirala and his “mistress” Tara Regmi at Kathmandu District Court seeking a life sentence for Koirala and up to 15 years of imprisonment for Regmi for their alleged role in the murder of Gita Dhakal.

Public prosecutors have accused Koirala of murdering his own wife Dhakal in a “planned” manner and burning her dead body. [break]

Regmi, on the other hand, has been charged of being the main accomplice with direct involvement in the murder for apparently instigating Koirala to commit the crime that took place on January 11.

Bharat Lamsal, the chief administrator of the Kathmandu District Court, said that the court will start a hearing on whether to grant bail to the accused from Friday.

If the court denies the bail, the accused will have to remain in judicial custody until the court passes its final verdict.

A joint squad of Metropolitan Police Crime Division and Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, arrested Koirala on January 22 from Nagdhunga while on his way back to Kathmandu in his private car.

Similarly, police arrested Regmi from Satdobato, Lalitpur on February 6, soon after she returned from Malaysia.
