MYAGDI, May 4: The district administration of Myagdi has decided to enforce a prohibitory order in Beni Municipality effective from Wednesday for 10 days in a bid to break the chain of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection.

A meeting of the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (DCCMC) held on Tuesday decided to enforce a 10 days long prohibitory order in the municipality, according to the Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari. According to CDO Adhikari, services apart from emergency one will not be allowed to operate in the district till May 15. 

“The decision does not apply to other local units of the district. We have enforced a prohibitory order for now instead of a lockdown,” Adhikari added.  The prohibitory order has been enforced in selective areas of the district. Services except schools outside the Beni municipality including Mangla, Malika, Dhaulagiri, Raghuganga, and Annapurna rural municipalities will remain open.

So far, 73 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Myagdi. Half of the infected people are from Beni Municipality alone. So far, 23 people have recovered from the disease in the district. 

The DCCMC decided to operate emergency services despite the municipality’s recommendation for a lockdown for 10 days to break the chain of the infection as the infected patients from five different locations of the district are currently being kept in isolation at Beni bazaar. 

The DCCMC has announced to take necessary decisions after considering the results of the prohibitory order that has been enforced for 10 days in the presence of the representatives of the security agencies, political parties, and other authorities concerned. The DCCMC has also requested eight wards outside of Beni to effectively implement the decision.
