KATHMANDU, Dec 9; The government on Friday said formation of the state restructuring commission and progress in the peace process are the major achievements of its hundred days in power.

Shrestha said the government has initiated programs to make it responsible to the people. “Prime Minister with people program has begun to make the government accountable to the people. Similarly, Hello Sarkar program has been launched to address people´s complaints,” Shrestha said highlighting good governance efforts of the present government.

Claming that the allegations of rampant corruption in public offices are not based on facts, Shrestha said, “The allegation does not reflect objective assessment. The allegation that there is rampant corruption is false.”

Ironically, as Shrestha was defending the government´s work, he was sitting with Minister for Energy Mahendra Yadav, Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi and Minister for Commerce and Industries Anil Jha, all of whom have been involved in arbitrary transfers of bureaucrats in offices under their respective ministries.

When asked why there has been no progress in filling up the vacant posts in constitutional bodies and diplomatic missions, Shrestha admitted government´s weakness.

“It is sad that the government has not been able to make appointments in constitutional bodies and diplomatic missions. We regret the delay,” said Shrestha.

Shrestha, replying to a question, said there are law and order problems but added that the government is trying to fix them.

On economic front, Shrestha said the government has created environment conducive to foreign investment and as a result foreign investors have visited Nepal since the government came to power. He highlighted that signing of the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement and Double Tax Avoidance Agreement with India as important achievements of the government.

Shrestha said the government has taken initiatives for the development of Lumbini. “A six-member Broader Lumbini Development National Directorate under the leadership of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been formed to assist the Lumbini Development Fund,” he said.
