Speaking at a talk program on ´Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the role for business in climate change adaptation´ organized by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) on Tuesday, representatives from private companies also expressed their willingness to work with ICIMOD.[break]
Dr Andreas Schild, director general of ICIMOD, urged the private sector to adopt low carbon economy. “Climate change adaptation is a global phenomenon as it is touching the entire segment, including the business,” Schild said, adding that sustainable business practices would be beneficial for the private sector in the days to come.
Leena Wokekc, a German expert of CSR Asia, shared with the participants the business strategies for climate change adaptation.
Similarly, Siddhanta Pandey, CEO of Ace Development Bank, informed the participants about the bank´s plan to contribute in the Himalayan region through CSR activities. “We are in the planning phase and looking forward to work hand in hand with ICIMOD,” he added.
Rajendra Khetan of Khetan Group, Ram Raja Basnet of Panchakanya Group and Shreejana Rana of Hotel De l´Annapurna among others highlighted their CSR activities in climate change adaptation.
ICIMOD is expanding its partnership by opening its door to more private sector engagement in various issues of climate change adaptation.
“Institutions like ours can provide corporate houses new opportunities to contribute their resources in programs that benefit our environment and the communities at large,” Naina Shakya, fundraising and external relations officer at ICIMOD, said.
