JAJARKOT, July 4: Due to the lack of space in Jajarkot Prison, inmates have been taking turns to sleep. There is simply not enough space in the prison for 54 inmates as it is meant for keeping just 20 prisoners.
There are currently 54 inmates in the prison which has a capacity of just 15 men and five women. Khush Bahadur Mahatara, the head of the prison, said that there were problems in electricity, drinking water, shelter and health treatment due to overcrowding.

Prison Chief Chandra Bahadur Giri said that there are 54 inmates in the district jail including 35 prisoners and 19 detainees. He said that the prison administration was facing problems in managing the old building and overcrowding.
Prisoner Dirgha Bahadur Nepali says that the inmates are not able to sleep well during the rainy season as the prison is in a dilapidated condition.
Chief District Officer Ram Bahadur Shahi said that initiatives would be taken to resolve the problems seen in the jail. He said there was a problem of overcrowding in the prison and initiatives were being taken to resolve it.
