KATHMANDU, June 13: Five Political parties on Saturday have urged the President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to initiate the constitution drafting process as per the spirit of the preamble, directive principle and norms and values of the Interim Constitution-2063 BS.

The Tarai Madhes Democratic chair Mahanta Thakur, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Nepal chair Upendra Yadav, Federal Socialist Party chair Ashok Rai, Sadbhawana Party chair Rajendra Mahato and Terai Madhes Sadbhawana Party, Nepal leader Ram Naresh Ray had reached the President Residence Shital Niwas today for the same.

The parties further have urged the President Yadav to initiate to promulgate a new constitution through constituent assembly (CA) itself.

In the request letter submitted to the President Yadav, the parties have stated that to be formed federal commission would not address the issues of identity based federalism with democratic norms as it was proposed to form for drafting the constitution without federalism.

The proposal was against the spirit of the Interim Constitution Article No 82.

The five-party, who submitted the request letter to the President, also had submitted a memorandum to Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Nembang protesting the consensus on Friday.

The request letter states that the act of curtailing the people's rights and working areas of the Constituent Assembly would not be acceptable to them at any cost.

The five-party said that the 16-point agreement signed by the four-party on June 8, was against the spirit of preamble, directive principle and constitutional provision of the Interim Constitution and it was the direct violation of it.

On the occasion, President Yadav expressed the view that the new constitution should be promulgated through consensus, collaboration and unity among all, said Co-Chairman of the Sadbhawana Party, Laxman Lal Karna, quoting the President.

The President further said that he would hold discussions with other political parties regarding the request letter, said Karna. RSS
