The two leaders, during a 45-minute discussion, discussed ways to ensure participation of dissident political parties in the election process.[break]
"The meeting was mainly focussed on addressing the concerns of the political parties and other groups that are at odds over the election process," Regmi´s press advisor Bimal Gautam told Republica.
Regmi and the head of state discussed how to address the dissident political parties´ concerns on the provisions in the proposed election ordinance.
Parties have stood divided over some of the provisions of the proposed ordinance such as the criteria for eligibility to secure seats in the Constituent Assembly under the proportional representation quota. As per a proposed provision, a political party can secure seat under the proportional quota only if the party secures at least 1 percent of total valid votes cast in the election. UCPN (Maoist) and some small parties are against the provision while NC and CPN-UML are in favor.
Also, Regmi and Yadav discussed introducing new annual budget within a couple of days.
