Prez happy for timely elections to end transition

KATHMANDU, Oct 17: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed her happiness over the commitment by the government and all political parties to hold the elections on time to end the post-constitution transition and implement the new constitution. 

Bhandari invited Vice President Nanada Bahadur Pun, chiefs of major political parties and former prime ministers for a meeting on Monday to exchange greetings for the upcoming Tihar festival. Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Chairman K P Oli, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Kamal Thapa and Chairman of Nepal Loktantrik Forum, Bijay Gachchhadar, former prime ministers, among other leaders, attended the meeting convened by the head of state. 

“She expressed her happiness over the efforts towards concluding the transition. She said that she was happy to see the unity among and commitment from all political parties to hold the elections,” said, former Prime Minister and UML leader Madhav Nepal. 

According to assistant spokesperson for the president, Krishna Murahari Neupane, President Bhanari urged all political parties to focus on settling the emerging problems in the country through national unity. “She stressed concluding the upcoming elections to the federal and provincial parliaments in a free and fair manner, with unity among all political parties and government,” said Neupane in a statement issued after the meeting. 

Prime Minister Deuba didn't speak anything in the meeting. According to former Prime Minister Nepal, he urged the leaders to focus on the economic prosperity and development of the country with the election of the federal and provincial parliaments.
